Distant Reflection is the most meditative and poetic image in Tamara Gooch's equine detail series — a chestnut horse's eye barely visible through a soft curtain of platinum mane, the pale blue of the sky beyond providing a backdrop of such quiet luminosity that the entire image feels suspended between the physical and the dreamed. The eye is not the sharp, confrontational gaze of Hidden Presence but something altogether softer and more inward — half-obscured by the windswept forelock, looking not at the camera but at something beyond the frame, the dark iris carrying that quality of distant, unhurried attention that horses have when their minds are elsewhere and the world around them has temporarily ceased to make demands.
