At the last light of the day, two bull elk in summer velvet stand on the ridgeline above Cody and own the sky. The golden hour light saturates their coats in deep amber and copper, the velvet antlers glowing warm against the pale blue of the evening sky, and the two bulls stand with the easy confidence of animals at home on high ground with nothing but open country behind them. The composition is spare and powerful — no competing background, no distracting foreground, just two magnificent animals and the sky — and that simplicity gives the image a graphic boldness that rewards large format printing enormously.
