In the pale aspen forest of Grand Teton National Park in the full grip of autumn, a bull moose stands with the absolute, unhurried authority of an animal that has nothing to prove and nowhere to be that matters more than here. Lord of the Forest is a portrait of mature bull moose presence at its most commanding and most complete — the enormous palmated antlers spreading wide above the dark, massive form of the body, catching the morning light with a warm, branching complexity that makes them appear almost architectural against the pale grey trunks of the aspens behind. The bull faces the lens with the particular quality of attention that a mature bull moose reserves for things he has decided to acknowledge — not alarm, not aggression, but the calm, considered assessment of an animal that has been the largest thing in this forest for long enough that the distinction between sovereign and habitat has become academic. The autumn understory frames him at the base — the low shrubs turning amber and red around his legs, the dappled light of the October forest filtering through the canopy above in long, warm shafts that catch the tips of the antlers and the broad, dark shoulder with equal generosity. This is the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem's most iconic large mammal in the setting that suits him best — not the open meadow or the river edge but deep in the forest, where the scale of the animal and the scale of the trees achieve an equilibrium that makes the whole scene feel ancient and right. On ChromaLuxe Metal or Lumachrome HD TruLife Acrylic, the warm autumn palette and the commanding presence of Lord of the Forest make it one of the most powerful and imposing wildlife portraits in the collection — a natural companion to Autumn Bull and The Courtship for collectors drawn to the bull moose of Grand Teton National Park.
