The Oregon coast does not reveal itself easily. On mornings like this one, the sea mist rolls in off the Pacific and wraps the sea stacks and the shoreline in layers of soft grey obscurity, the dark evergreen forest disappearing into white behind the rocks, the light breaking through in long, diffuse shafts that illuminate the churning water and the angular basalt forms with a quality that is less illumination than apparition.
