The storm is coming and the mesa knows it. A shaft of golden light breaks through the churning dark sky and falls across the layered sandstone flanks of the formation — illuminating the ochre and rust of the rock face while the surrounding desert scrub catches the same warm light in the last minutes before the clouds close in. The contrast here is total and electric: the warm, sun-lit geology against the steel blue and charcoal of the storm sky, the ancient stillness of the mesa against the kinetic energy of the weather moving over it.
