The image is all movement and energy and the particular joyful violence of big horses at play — the dark bay driving forward as the spotted appaloosa-marked stallion rises and turns, manes and tails flying in every direction, the dust so thick and so beautifully lit that the horses seem to exist within it rather than simply in front of it, the entire composition dissolving at its edges into the warm, luminous haze of the arena.
