The world dissolves into gold. A cowboy sits easy on his horse in the early morning, and the sunrise light pouring through the dust and mist turns everything around him — the air, the horse, the timber behind — into a single luminous haze of amber and copper that seems less like a photograph than like a memory of one. He looks down with the quiet, self-contained focus of a man at the beginning of a long day's work, entirely unhurried, entirely at home in the golden chaos of light and dust surrounding him. The dark silhouette of horse and rider at the center of all that radiance gives the image its graphic anchor, and the tendrils of dust and steam drifting through the light give it a depth and atmosphere that no studio could manufacture.
