Behind the Lens
Agathla Peak is a place that demands a certain level of reverence. Known as a sacred "center of the world" in local culture, I wanted to photograph it in a way that highlighted its isolation and its sheer vertical power. By waiting for a day with high-contrast cloud formations, I was able to create a dramatic interplay between the dark volcanic rock and the brilliant sky. I chose black and white to emphasize the textures of the stone—each crevice and ridge tells a story of millions of years of erosion. This photograph is my tribute to the enduring, silent sentinels of the desert.
