Friesian Sunset is an image that needs no explanation and brooks no argument — a Friesian stallion silhouetted in pure black against a Washington coast sunset of such incandescent, all-consuming orange that the sky and the wet sand and the retreating tide have all become the same single field of molten light. The horse is mid-movement, one foreleg raised, the long mane and tail streaming in the coastal wind as dark ribbons against the burning sky, the entire form reduced to silhouette and yet completely readable in every detail — the powerful crested neck, the feathered legs, the extravagant mane that identifies the breed at any distance and in any light.
